The WBCSD was formed in January 1995 through a merger between
the Business Council for Sustainable Development (BCSD)
in Geneva and the World Industry Council for the Environment
(WICE) in Paris. Since then, we have become the pre-eminent
business voice on sustainable development issues and are
playing a leading role in shaping business’s response
to the challenges of sustainable development.
To provide business leadership as a catalyst for change
toward sustainable development, and to promote the role
of eco-efficiency, innovation and corporate social responsibility.
We are a member-led organization. The WBCSD is governed
by a Council composed of the Chief Executive Officers of
its member companies, or other top-level executives of equivalent
rank. The Council meets annually to decide on the organization's
priorities and to discuss strategic issues connected with

WBCSD, and also meets annually. Responsibility for the day-to-day
management of the WBCSD's affairs lies with the president
